It's about dance, it's about artistry, and other interests should be posted ELSEWHERE, I mean, simply check out the context! That'll get you mo' better responses, simply put, stay on topic, or go to other areas for other things! There are plenty of tribes for non-dance related communications.

Thank you Vern. You are exactly right. If he or others are interested in finding a love (lust, or other) connections, then they should go elsewhere or start their own tribe. If we allow him to pursue his interest here, then others will follow and the the original point of this tribe would be lost. And besides, a key aspect of any relationship is respect. And if he can't do something as simple as respecting the topic of a tribe, then what does that say about him?

We had a chance here to educate a young man about ourselves and our dance, outside of Akon and R Kelly. But since we’ve generalized this young black man maybe this should be a closed tribe so no one else outside of the belly dance community can ask questions and get answers. I ask a lot of questions so I guess its time for me leave:-)

            Bye

No one is hindering his education of the art of dance but that is not what his post was about. He was directing us to his MySpace page in hopes of getting a hook up. I am all for educating those that are interested in our art if that is the point. Trust me I have had to educate several of my brothers to the art of the dance because of the misconception that we are all strippers but the difference with them and this gentleman is they asked direct questions based on a misconception in which I was happy to answer.

If he wants to know more about the culture then he should ask more direct questions about the culture or show a genuine interest in what we do, unfortunately I do not see that in this case. I understand your point but I just don’t think that is his motive.

Im not looking to "hook up" just looking to meet cultured Nubian women and hey if they can dance also.. thats a plus :)

                    well..
Most mordern day "black" people have no idea of there Nubian roots. So when I came across a group called "Nubian divas" I figured I'd drop a line.

Because frankly im searching for that special someone. (if your instrested.. cool)

I guess I never factored in that belly dancers have this misconception that men look at them as strippers. When in fact, I have the utmost love, respect and adoration toward you all.

P.S. Not that it matters but: If it's ant consolation I take and compete in ball room dance myself. :)

                    Much Love

                    - Luis

No, don't do that. Here is his chance to at least learn Doumbek, Ney or maybe even Oud. The young man should at least get something out of his efforts. From my end, I am happy to see Nubian Divas dance at all. It is better to see a Tribe dedicated to it. Support for this sort of thing is needed. Enjoy the dance first, get involved in the art second, who know? Maybe something worth while can come from it.

Allright - since mine was the original snark that started this. First of all - if I misunderstood your intentions then I apologize, but before you write ME off as not nice let me explain where I'm coming from. I do accept that at first I was guilty of what Aneaj said was "generalizing the man". Haven't we all at some point in our dance careers been faced with a man in an audience who doesn't have the tact or finess to talk to a woman like a human being, and instead just assumes that we're there for his gratification and amusement?? The name of the thread, when I first read it, struck me along those lines, which is why I posted my short answer - gut reaction - I felt generalized. I mean, did you even read the Tribe introduciton beyond the words Nubian Diva's? I have no problem with people meeting and falling for each other here on Tribe or where ever else they want to do it, but this tribe is not for that purpose. I can understand why a man would want to come in here and try his luck though, but please don't pretend that it's not your intent from the get go. If you are really interested in getting to know any of the ladies in this tribe, then get to know us from the standpoint of the Dance. The music, the environment, the people, there is SO much to learn - just ask. You will not only get all sorts of replies, and inevitably make new friends (that you can then date), but you will be actually interacting and learning about something new. There is NOTHING I like more than to talk to newbies about our beautiful artform. For my harshness I apologize, for my message, I don't. : )
                  Peace - Kashmir

I still love you Kashmir :)

I realise my post was short and wasn't tactful, not that it was rude either. Frankly I was new to tribes, was looking for intellenget black women, but didn't want to put to much effort into a post and come off as a loser...after all (I don't bellydance lol)
Reguardless .. I've changed my ways, now that I know what's exepected of me when talking with divas ;)

I did infact meet 2 lovely people who added me to myspace. Whom i'm sure after adding me realized that I'm not as misguided or uneducated is previously considered. (Infact I've been quite educational for them)

But back to music and dance.. (since I see im really going to have to impress you for you to stop being mean too me lol j/k)

I love dancing! I've been taking Ballroom.. (Ramba,Tango,Waltz,Foxtrot and Swing) I enjoy it now more than hip-hip, even tho it's much harder to learn. (great for couples to take)
And I sing R&B: www.myspace.com/reveal (If you wana listen im the first singer in "Be Ur Man")

.. can we be friends now? :)
